Orange Julius

Here is the basic orange juilius recipe that I grew up with, strait out of my Mom’s box of recipes.  I can’t live with out this one! Best served with delicious French Toast, sausage, and whipped cream:)

Orange Julius

1 6oz. can orange julius, concentrate frozen

1 1/2 cans(the empty OJ can)  water(sometimes I use a little less)

1/3 cup sugar

1 tsp. vanilla

1 1/2 cans evaporated milk (can imitate with 1/2 as much regular milk)

8-12 ice cubes

Blend everything, except the ice, until smooth.  Add ice and crush.  Yumm!

Carrot Smoothie

We make smoothies almost every day and I love that my boys love them, especially when I add spinach or other veggies.  My usual quick smoothie is to grab a few handfuls of frozen mixed fruit, a banana, and a couple of handfuls of spinach.  I thought I’d try out a veggie smoothie tonight and I came up with this one.  I thought is was yummy and the best part is that I put it into popsicle molds so my boys will eat them this week.


Carrot Smoothie

2 cups baby carrots

1 stick celery

apx. 1 cup apple juice

1 banana

1/2 cup vanilla yogurt

12 ice cubes

I started by puréeing the carrots, celery, and apple juice.  Then add the banana, yogurt, and  ice cubes.  I really like carrot juice, but if you want to dilute it a little more add an extra banana or some other fruit (I did this for my boys and they drank their smoothies, without noticing that it was mostly veggies)

Fruit + Green Smoothies

I like smoothies.  No, I LOVE smoothies!  They are like an addiction of healthy goodness. They are my favorite thing to make the moment I come home from a workout.  My boys ask for them regularly, they are my summer-go-to meal when it’s too hot to eat ‘real’ food.  I love that my boys know how to make a smoothie by themselves and love thinking of new ingredients.  Here are a few lucky creations I came up with that I absolutely love.


Orange Julius Plus
1 -6oz. can frozen orange juice concentrate
1 cup strawberries
1 -1 1/2 cups frozen spinach pieces
1 banana
1 tsp vanilla
1 cup milk
1 cup water (opt. – to make it runnier)

Blend it up and serve!

Strawberry-Banana Blast Plus
1 -6 oz. can of frozen concentrate grape juice
1/2 apple chopped into slices or cubes so its easier to blend
2-3 cups frozen strawberries
1-2 bananas
1 1/2 cups frozen spinach pieces
1 tsp vanilla
1 cup milk (+ or – will determine how thick)

Blend it up and serve!

Loaded Fruit Smoothie

2 bananas
2-3 handfuls of mixed tropical fruit (I get a bulk bag at Costco)
1/2 cup vanilla yogurt
2 handfuls spinach leaves
1/2 cup cooked quinoa
1 1/2 cups water

Blend it up and serve!
